Okay, confession time: I wasn't a fan of Lena's for about three quarters of this book. I get it--she's got issues and they all stem from her loss. However, she made assumptions and lots of them when it came to Mason, and you know what they say when one assumes. I don't know if that can still be blamed on her still mourning her sister. It had more to do with her preconceived notions of Mason, notions that she probably convinced herself were true because it made it easier for her to keep her distance from him and to justify her thinking that he wasn't worth even thinking about. She did win me over, but it truly took a good, long while for me to get to that particular point.

Mason was...goodness, but how the man was all swoon-worthy! He also, however, made my heart clench in my chest over several of the latter chapters in the books. I had to grab a tissue because that sort of event in one's life is something anyone with a functioning heart can easily empathize with. This book, after all, was as much about putting yourself out there and falling in love was it was about family, forgiveness, and moving forward. This was very much an Ella Frank book, what with her brand of romance--both the sweet and steamy kind--indelibly marked on every page and it serves as a rather strong starting point for the rest of the series. I'm giving Exquisite 4.5 stars. ♥

Hello, Whiplash!

I honestly don’t remember the last time a couple gave this bad of a case of whiplash, but Mason and Lena, (mostly Lena in all honesty but Mason got a few good twists in there) most definitely are that list of couples who should be paying for my next massage. But, despite the pain (or maybe because of it???) I couldn’t put this book down. The need to see these two make it was imperative and thank god for that ending because it made the pain worth it.

I have to be honest and say that I was #TeamMason throughout the entire book. Even when he slipped, I was #TeamMason. I’m not sure if it was his charm or his stubborn determination that did it for me, or maybe just a combo of the two, but talk about a good man. Lena on the other hand...she tried my patience. H#^l, I think she broke my patience because even I, a self proclaimed bitch, had a difficult time with her b%tchin@ss. I empathized with the reason behind it, but I just couldn’t find a way to be okay with her outbursts of meanness. What saved her, even before she got her sh^t@ together, was the knowledge of how bruised her heart was over the incident that basically shut her spirit down and getting those little glimpses of the woman she could be if she found a way to, not get over what happened, but come to terms with it.

Their journey was filled with emotional landmines, some good, some not so good, but regardless it was addicting. The chemistry between them was intense and even when they were not at their finest, it was clear there was something brewing between them that could be amazing if they simply let it happen. The sinkholes in their journey were huge, but through sheer stubborn determination they both made it out alive, thanks to a lot of help from their family and friends, and I was very happy with there they ended up.

I know for some having a character, or characters, drive them b@tsh%t crazy would more than likely downgrade their enjoyment of the story as well as the rating, and I’ll admit that has happened for me in the past, but Ms. Frank pulled off that...thing...where you get an understanding of not only what made them that way, but also what they could be if only they could come to terms with whatever demons are riding them and peaked my interest in wanting to see them evolve. But outside of that (and the intense frustration) I enjoyed the book as a whole, especially meeting the characters I’ve already met in the Temptation series (Yeah, I’m going backwards, but at least I’m getting there) and I cannot wait to delve into Entice and Edible (especially Edible because Cole…).
There has definitely been a surge in comedy romance lately. It is a favorite genre of mine and I am thrilled at the resurgence. The Exquisite series has been making a buzz so I snatched them up and tucked them away as a treat read. Cause a girl has to have a candy stash doesn't she? (wink)

A doctor, who is too busy to date with an ability to keep people away and a chef who is known for his playboy antics as well as his cuisine are our couple here. What is not to like about this set up? I found Exquisite fun and the build up between these two a sexy ride for the most part. However, would I rank it up there with my favorites in this genre? Nope. There were a few things that put me off.

The first time they get down to business the topic of birth control comes up. They don't have condoms but, she is on the pill. Dr. Lena reassures Mason that condom free sex is okay with her. Uhhh..... Did you hear the part where I said Lena was a DOCTOR? Not to mention the fact that Lena is being dubbed in the local papers as number 34. The presumed women Mason has been with this year alone. Safe sex people!

Also the ending was a bit over the top for me with the letters from Mason's mom. That just seemed thrown in there to tie up loose ends. I didn't find it all that believable.

The banter was fun and maybe due to the hype I was expecting more. I have been told that the series does get better with each book so I am hanging in there. Not the best candy but yummy none the less.
