The Staircase Ann Rinaldi Books
When I bought this book in the gift shop at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe I thought it might be nice for my daughter to read to her children. This weekend when my mother was unexpectedly hospitalized and it was the only book at hand, we took turns reading it to her and once begun could hardly put it down! Ms. Renaldi did an excellent job blending history with fiction to create a great story that made us laugh and made us cry. Her characters are fascinating and realistic. Our family from the children to the great-grandmother enjoyed the book.Tags : Amazon.com: The Staircase (9780152167882): Ann Rinaldi: Books,Ann Rinaldi,The Staircase,HMH Books for Young Readers,0152167889,Historical - United States - 19th Century,Social Themes - Friendship,Catholic schools,Catholic schools;Fiction.,Fathers and daughters,Fathers and daughters;Fiction.,Sante Fe (N.M.),Schools,Schools;Fiction.,Children's BooksAges 9-12 Fiction,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fiction,JUVENILE,JUVENILE FICTION Historical United States 19th Century,JUVENILE FICTION Religious Christian General,JUVENILE FICTION Social Themes Friendship,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Fiction Social Issues Friendship,Juvenile FictionSocial Themes - Friendship,Juvenile Grades 7-9 Ages 12-14,Picture books, activity books & early learning material,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Historical United States 19th Century,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes Friendship
The Staircase Ann Rinaldi Books Reviews
I liked it. It was written well and I enjoyed the story and history.
Very pleased with the book I enjoy reading the author. Will be reading somemore of her writings.
Great book! Enjoyed reading this. It was a fast read. Excellent book for young girls with questions about Jesus, God and spirituality. It inspired me.
I loved this book about the legend behind the building of the staircase in Loretto Chapel - located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Ann Rinaldi expands the story and the book is entertaining and educational. I love to read historical fiction about areas that we plan to visit and this book fit the bill. If you're ever in Santa Fe, the Loretto Chapel is a must-see and this book will help you appreciate the church and the staircase. In fact, I plan to read it again soon before we head back to another visit to beautiful Santa Fe!
The story of a young Methodist girl whose mother dies en-route to the west, and her father abandons her at a girls catholic school in the town of Santa Fe NM. The story is centered on a local 'myth' that the spiral staircase in their church was a miracle, that St.Joesph appeared in the guise of peasant carpenter and built it with wood he conjured.
From a historical standpoint the book is a bit light, but it might be good supplementary reading for the settling of the southwest.
Was assigned this for a college course dealing with the history of New Mexico.
It was a good read, but it felt very familiar, like I'd read it a couple decades earlier during childhood. Perhaps this is a book that is regularly assigned in middle school?
It is a good fictional story with an account of what actually happened when the staircase was built. Imagine a staircase built with no reinforcements and no nails or screws just wooden pegs. It has two 360 degree turns and no railing on the 33 stairs. 33 ?
